The Batman  director Matt Reeves has confirmed John Turturro is playing the mob boss Carmine Falcone in his upcoming DC Comics adaptation. And speaking of Spider-Man, specifically Spider-Man 3, there's a big lesson The Batman can learn from this film, given recent casting announcements of Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman and now Paul Dano as The Riddler. Matt Reeves is directing the new bat-film, with Robert Pattinson set to star as the Caped Crusader, while Jeffrey Wright is Commissioner Gordon.
You may also recall that in November 2014, I interviewed Matt Reeves and said I hoped he would be the next filmmaker to take over the Batman franchise after Ben Affleck moved on (this was at the time Affleck was still attached to the project, obviously), and afterward spent years naming Reeves as the next director I wanted to oversee Batman movies.
The Batman will tell a new origin story for the Dark Knight, which director Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) has said will focus on a younger Bruce Wayne as "the world's greatest detective." The ensemble includes Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, the latter of which Pattinson himself told ET was a The Batman 2021 stroke of " brilliant " casting.
With more casting news on the way, sources now claim that another big-name actor has thrown his hat in the ring to play the Penguin. While Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen were reportedly in the running to land parts in the film, the roles of Catwoman and The Riddler went to Kravitz and Dano.
With DC downplaying the DCEU name and focusing less on continuity between movies post-Justice League, it's hard to know for sure whether The Batman is meant to be a complete reboot or an extension of past DCEU movies. According to Variety , filming is expected to take place between the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2021 with a release date set for the film on June 25, 2021.
Alongside supporting cast members Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, and only just recently announced, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon , McConaughey's speculated addition is proof that director Matt Reeves knows just what he's doing with his rendition of the DC character.
